Boho Sling bag

Boho Sling bag

I am loving all the cute little sling bag I have seen lately and decided to create one for myself. I haven't worn one since high school (so long ago). This is a beginner-friendly pattern, super easy and crochet up quickly. I think I made one in just 2 hours.

Materials:

  • 1 skein of bulky yarn
  • 6.5mm crochet hook
  • tapestry needle
Gauge:
9.5 sc x 12 rows = 4”/10cm in single crochet

Abbreviations
Ch            Chain
Rep          Repeat
RS            Right side
Sc             Single crochet
Sc2tog      Single crochet 2 together

Sc tbl        Single crochet through the back loop
Sc tfl         Single crochet through the front loop
Sl st          Slip stitch
St(s)         Stitch(es)

Single crochet 2 together (sc2tog) – Insert hook into stitch, yarn over and draw up a loop. Insert
hook into next stitch, yarn over and draw up a loop (3 loops on hook). Yarn over, draw through all
3 loops on hook.

Pattern
Ch 14.
Row 1 (RS): Starting in 2nd ch from hook, sc across row. Ch 1, turn. (13 sts)

Rows 2-21: Sc across row. Ch 1, turn.

Row 22: Sc tfl across row. Ch 1, turn.

Row 23: Sc tbl across row. Ch 1, turn.

Rows 24-49: Sc across row. Ch 1, turn.

Row 50: Sc2tog, sc to last 2 sts, sc2tog. Ch 1, turn. (11 sts)

Rows 51-54: Rep row 50. (3 sts)

Row 55: Sc2tog, and starting in the same stitch you just came out of, sc2tog. (2 sts)

Break yarn and weave in all ends. Block work so that it lays flat.

Fold work so that the foundation chain meets row 43 and row 22 is at the bottom fold.
With the front (shorter, non-decreased) side of the purse facing up, rejoin yarn at bottom left corner and
work a sc edge stitch through both pieces of fabric, seaming up the side of the purse.

When you reach the top of the front where the foundation chain meets row 43, begin working a sl st edge along one side of the top flap. When you reach the point of the flap at row 55, ch 2 and skip over the sts of that row and work the sl st edge back down the other side. When you reach the top of the front again where the foundation chain meets row 43, change back to the sc edge stitch going through both pieces of fabric to seam down the other side of the purse.

Cut twenty 10”/25cm lengths of yarn and one 12”/31cm length of yarn. Draw the shorter strands
half way through the space created by the ch sts and row 55 at the tip of the flap. Fold the strands
in half over the ch sts and use the 12”/31cm length of yarn to tie horizontally around the bundle,
about 1”/2.5cm from top fold. Wrap the end of the length of yarn horizontally around the bundle
several times and use the large eye blunt needle to pull the end down the center of the tassel.
Trim tassel to desired length. Cut three 50”/1.3m lengths of yarn and braid together, knotting at
ends. Sew ends to inside of top of purse. Weave in any remaining ends.

I really love how it is so small and simple to bring while traveling and ended up making two of these in Peach and Mint green.

How do I start crocheting?

I am extremely grateful to have this personal little space on the internet at times like these. Lately I have been feeling positive about where I am going. The path is unknown (of course!) and I am not entirely sure where it is taking me yet buttt it feels right! Since I started a new hobby, where crochet came into my life, I have fallen back in love with vintage fashion and dressing up to suit my mood and style. Believe me, my mood tends to be brighter and cheekier these days despite the struggles we face in life. Putting together outfits and creating different looks has always been where my creativity and excitement peaks. I simply love it.  Even if I am just staying indoors, I still feel like the effort it takes to dress up and maybe pop up a lil bit of blush is worth it. It forever lifts my mood and keeps me in touch with fond memories of loved ones.  Today as I was cleaning the house and watering my plants, I thought of stories of my mom and how she always used to dress up for hou
